Delaney Burke, a young relative of the sports-storied Burke family in Columbia, competes as a senior forward for the Columbia girls basketball team.
Early in their preseason practicing, Delaney sees the Tide as a “defense first and gritty” basketball team. Their goal is to “get every ball and every rebound!” She anticipates low-scoring games with Columbia winning.
Delaney views her role on her Columbia team leading by example. She says she learned the right way to play from the Droege twins and Emily Gamber of previous teams. And her quote to inspire this year’s team — “Our season will depend on what we put into it and our ability to be a TEAM!”
Delaney sees Pequea Valley and Annville-Cleona as rivals on Columbia’s schedule.
In her actively involved senior year at Columbia, Delaney is National Honor Society president andClass of ’26 vice president. She also is on the Dance Committee and helps run concessions at home football and boys basketball games if her basketball team is not scheduled.
As a student-athlete, Delaney likes to study the sciences and math. She has already been accepted to study at two major universities, Penn State University and University of Pittsburgh. Once she decides, she will study international business.
