Merv Witmer was a head coach in two sports for Ephrata HS. In wrestling his teams won 312 matches, losing 167 with three ties. They won four Lancaster-Lebanon League section titles with seven runners-up finishes and his teams twice placed second in the District 3 team championships. He coached one PIAA state champion, six individual District 3 champions and six L-L champions.
Witmer coached Ephrata HS’s football team for seven seasons and was Athletic Director for 15 years. Witmer is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
