Golf has been a life-long passion and success for King Knox. A graduate of Manheim Twp. HS, Knox won the District 3 Individual Golf Championship in 1959 and placed 3rd in the state tournament in 1960. At Franklin & Marshall he was the Middle Atlantic Conference champ in 1964 and placed third in the College Division championships in 1965, when he was awarded Little All-American recognition.

Knox has won the Lanco Amateur Tournament a record eight times, spanning four decades. In fact, the Lanco Amateur Trophy is named in his honor. He won the Pennsylvania Senior amateur Championship in 2005.
